As the longest established professional florist in Nelson New Zealand, Woodlea Floral Studio has a colourful and rich local history. The one constant over the last 58 years is the quality and beauty of the flower arrangements and bouquets. Through the years, every floral arrangement has carried the individual character, personality and creativity of the business owner.

Story: Purchasing Woodlea Floral Studio was a decision that came naturally to Astrid and Maurice. After years involved in the floral industry becoming owners was a natural progression. Astrid’s creative style and bold personality is obvious in every beautiful arrangement that leaves Woodlea Floral Studio. Maurice can regularly be found helping Astrid in the floral studio during the week, and at the Nelson Saturday Market.

Experience: Over 40 years florist experience, with over 20 years as owner of Woodlea.

Story: To date, Helen & Rex owned Woodlea Floral Studio for considerably longer than anyone else, 21 years in total. Helen was known as a colourful character who was never short of an opinion and her love of flowers and creative designs saw her become a Master Tutor and help establish guidelines that are still adhered to today.

Story: It may be a bit of an “Urban Legend” but they say when Murial first started working in Nelson she had a regular client who always referred to her as ‘Miss Woodlea’. After hearing the name repeated over many years she grew to like it, and chose it as the name for her florist store when she opened the doors of Woodlea Floral Studio in 1954.
